Deep in the heart of rural France, peace and tranquility found, a haven for those looking to reconnect with nature and recharge. Our renovated farm is located at the end of a lane, is south facing and surrounded by 5 acres of our private gardens, fields and forests. There is an orchard to the west (with a sunset/dining point with views across the valley to the Dordogne), meadow and forest to the north and gardens and meadows to the south. We also have a number of small forest parcels in the surrounding forests which our guests are welcome to access via the many grassy lanes. The tarmac ends at our farm and becomes a bridleway so the only traffic is from the ocasional walker, mountain biker or horse rider etc. These bridleways connect to numerous others of course, so direct access to literally hundreds of kilometres of forest trails around the area is right on your doorstep, making this an ideal location for hikers, joggers, cyclists, horse riders, & wildlife spotting, (maps, tourist guides & advice are freely available to guests at the farm). Camping a la farm can also be arranged (exclusively for those booking a gite), so larger groups can be accommodated for.
Some the best wildlife spotting can be done around the farm in the company a glass of wine at a place of your choosing, as the deer emerge from the surrounding forest to graze at dust. Wild boar, badgers, foxes and all the usual countryside wildlife you’d expect (and some you might not) are around including our resident barn owls & little owls nesting in our out buildings (fledging end of July).
With ample space available to relax and numerous benches, tables, loungers and chairs available, it is up to you where you want to spend your leisure, following the sun or following the shade. And then of course there's lunch, under the oak, apple or cherry tree (?) or perhaps a barbeque instead?
Bored of relaxing ? there are boules/petanque balls available and badminton nets & rackets for those feeling more energetic.
A popular local restaurant is only 10 minutes walk through the forest to the south (ideal for when you‘ve grown tired of cooking) and the beautiful chateau Rocher is 5 minutes walk to the west.
The surrounding countryside offers scenic tranquil villages, vibrant local markets, friendly village restaurants/ bars, beautiful country houses and stunning & majestic chateaux, all within an easy cycle ride. Rolling hills with steep sided valleys vast woodlands with secluded lakes and lazy rivers and abundant wildlife make this area a great place to explore on foot, by cycle or by car.
Further afield popular tourist destinations of the Dordogne are on your doorstep, starting at Nontron 15 mins drive to the south.
