Summary: Our stay with Feras and his family was unforgettable! We booked a bit last minute hoping everything would be ok but it was totally smooth and easy for us. We took a transfer from Aqaba to Petra, and our driver first took us to the village on the back side of Petra to drop our bags. Then he dropped us off at the visitor center. We bought 2-day Petra tickets (highly recommended so that you can enjoy the sunrise and early morning among the monuments, especially in the summer) and Petra by night for that evening. We walked to the treasury and Feras met us there with four mules who gave us a ride up to his cave house. It was like a cliff-side dwelling with lots of open porches to hang out on. There the kids were delighted to see he had two sons their age (7&8) and we relaxed and visited with his family and another traveler staying with us, a You-Tuber. Dinner was excellent, one of the better meals we had in Jordan. Then we road down in the back of a jeep to Petra by night. If you can come on a Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday I highly recommend Petra by night. Totally magical. We crashed after a long day and slept well, also relieved that we could charge our phones etc. We had cell reception the whole time. In the morning, we loved our traditional Arabic breakfast and camel ride. The views from the home are absolutely breathtaking. The only thing I might mention is to pack some extra water if you tend to drink a lot of water.
